After a week away from the office last week, I was delighted to find on my return advance copies of Reading Derrida's Of Grammatology, edited by Sean Gaston and Ian Maclachlan. This is a book I'm particularly excited about, not only because it was a pleasure to once again work with Sean (a longstanding Continuum author), but also because it's a bit different from the usual commentaries - and I hope it's going to get a very warm reception from its readers.
Since its publication in 1967, Of Grammatologyhas had a profound impact on philosophy, literary theory and the Humanities in general. Through a series of close readings of selected passages by writers from a wide range of disciplines, this collection aims to discover anew this important work and its continuing influence. It includes new readings by such leading scholars as Gayatri Chakravorty Spivak, J. Hillis Miller, Jean-Luc Nancy, Derek Attridge, Geoffrey Bennington and Nicholas Royle. It's an essential book for anyone interested in Derrida’s work, from readers new to the book to experienced researchers in philosophy, literature and the many other disciplines that Of Grammatology has transformed over the last forty years.
Reading Derrida's Of Grammatology will be available next month - in the meantime you can enjoy a preview by clicking on the image above.
